History

Daniel Spilman founded our predecessor firm in Toledo, Ohio, as a sole proprietorship, on January 2, 1984. Our founding principal’s objective in starting the firm was to provide the highest quality accounting, tax and financial consulting services to the area’s business community. In 1991, due to a growing client portfolio and demand for the Spilman brand, L. Bernard Byers (retired) and Mark J. Walla were admitted as principals and became responsible for the audit and tax practices, respectively.

In 1996 our firm took on a new look and name as John Hills and Richard Heidebrink joined the practice, and the firm was reformed as Spilman, Hills & Heidebrink, Ltd. With hard work and a commitment to the firm principles of quality and integrity, we have worked tirelessly to differentiate ourselves from other service providers and have experienced considerable growth. In 2008, Kris Bottles, Brian Kennedy, and Debbie Gossman were named Principals in the firm. In 2009, the firm welcomed Jennie Lambert as our newest Principal in the audit department.
